    Hello, my name is Kobe Holguin, Regional Admissions Counselor at California State University of Channel Islands (º£½ÇÉçÇøCI). My roots trace back to Orange County as I was raised in La Habra and attended La Habra High School. I am a recent graduate of º£½ÇÉçÇøCI where I obtained my B.S. in Health Science with a minor in Psychology. During my undergraduate studies, I was a member of EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) and look forward to providing support to students and first-generation college students like myself. In my free time, you can find me on X2 at Six Flags, walking my pugs, or playing video games.

    Hello, my name is Brianna Baeza, Admissions Counselor at California State University, Channel Islands (º£½ÇÉçÇøCI). I was born from a mixed-status immigrant family and have lived my whole life in Ventura County. As a first-generation, Mexicana, I began my higher education journey at Santa Barbara City College before transferring to the University of California, Riverside where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology. I am deeply passionate about empowering first-generation and underrepresented students by helping them find their voice and pursue their post-secondary goals. In my free time, I enjoy walking my Shih Tzu, Mila, dancing folklorico, bird watching, and going on road trips- especially to snowboard.

    Hello, my name is Manpreet Singh, Admission Counselor at California State University, Channel Islands (º£½ÇÉçÇøCI). I was born in Northern California to immigrant parents and lived there until May of 2021 when I moved to Los Angeles. I have received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from University of the Pacific and a Master of Science degree in Leadership in Higher Education from Pepperdine University. As a first-generation, minority student, I am passionate about supporting and mentoring fellow first-generation and minority students so they can achieve their educational and professional goals. In my free time, I like spending time with my husband and our 11-year-old Golden Retriever named Sammy, working out, watching movies, and being outdoors.

    I visit high schools in San Fernando Valley and LA county.

    Hello, I am Armando Zavala, Enrollment and Affordability Coordinator at California State University, Channel Islands (º£½ÇÉçÇøCI). My path in higher education began at Oxnard Community College and then led me to the University of California, Santa Barbara, where I earned a B.A. in Sociology. It was through deep engagement and the support I received that I discovered my passion for higher education. I am dedicated to empowering other non-traditional students, including first-generation scholars, transfers, students of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and more. I am also pursuing a master’s in educational leadership, aiming to further my impact in this field. Outside of work, you might find me at the gym, soaking in the magic of a concert, or walking with my toy poodle, Albby.

    Hola, mi nombre es Yaqueline Rodriguez, and I am the Transfer Success Counselor at º£½ÇÉçÇø (º£½ÇÉçÇøCI). I graduated from Baldwin Park High School, where I participated in a K-12 Dual Language program and earned the Seal of Biliteracy. I continued my education at º£½ÇÉçÇøCI, earning my bachelor's degree in History and minored in Chicano Studies, which deepened my understanding of the first-generation experience and the challenges faced by Spanish-speaking communities in the U.S. With extensive experience supporting high school students in navigating their post-secondary education, I am passionate about helping transfer students succeed at º£½ÇÉçÇøCI. In my free time, I enjoy practicing yoga, hiking, journaling, and catching a comedy show.

    Hello, my name is Dominic Porras, Admission Counselor at California State University, Channel Islands (º£½ÇÉçÇøCI). I was born and raised in Ventura County where I attended Saint Bonaventure High School. I continued my higher education at Moorpark College and then º£½ÇÉçÇøCI where I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology in May 2024. While attending º£½ÇÉçÇøCI, I worked with a program called PEEPS (Peer Education and Equity Programs), where I helped first-year freshman and transfer students by providing mentorship and tailored support. This foundation in student success guides my current work in ensuring all prospective students receive the resources and guidance they need to thrive at college. In my free time, I like to play video games, spending time with my dog, Bruno, and going on long drives while playing my music.
    I visit high schools in the Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo areas.

    Hello, my name is Ali Yalkinn, Admissions Counselor at California State University, Channel Islands (º£½ÇÉçÇøCI). I was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but lived in Istanbul, Turkey for most of my life. I have received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Politics and History from Penn State University Park and a Master of Arts degree in Comparative Studies of History and Society from Kocc University. As an internationally educated domestic first-generation student who had the chance of being part of two different societies, I am eager to help guide others who will follow my path and establish their own educational and career journeys in the United States. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time at the gym and seeing new places.
