Oct. 21, 2022 - The opening reception for 鈥淭he Cherie Nedderman Collection of California Art at 海角社区CI: Impressions and Dialogues鈥 exhibition will be Thursday, Oct. 27, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Broome Library Art Gallery.

The exhibition celebrates the artistic value and educational benefits of the collection, which was donated to the University by the family of the Camarillo nurse it belonged to after she died in 2019. Nedderman had told her family that she wanted her collection to be in a place 鈥渨here other people can enjoy it.鈥 The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the introduction of the collection to the campus and the community.聽

The show鈥檚 paintings, some created more than 100 years ago, reveal the core of Nedderman鈥檚 collecting interest. Beyond the thematic cohesion, the paintings disclose the artists鈥 idiosyncratic views, diverse styles and unique palettes. The narrative of the show vividly evokes the beauty of California and discloses subtle visual affinities with our campus and its surroundings. This connection is further highlighted in 鈥溾 an online project pairing works with paintings created by students.

Reservations for the free event can be made at this .

The exhibition will continue through Feb. 3.
