      A comprehensive program designed to enhance your understanding of generative AI. Whether you are a researcher, support staff, or simply curious about AI, this course offers valuable insights.       3-week, asynchronous, guided experimentation with AI tools for teaching. .

    • Learning Design Projects (AI Focus)
      TLi's grant-funded for faculty who wish to receive consultation and support for experimenting with AI in some aspect of their teaching (e.g., administrative, course design, assignment redesign, etc.)
    • ChatGPT - OpenAI's ChatGPT Edu agreement is tailored specifically for the California State University (海角社区) system, providing advanced AI capabilities for all employees and students. It offers the ability to build custom GPTs for sharing within campus workspaces, as well as the needed privacy and data protection, and other enterprise security such as single sign-on (SSO), and SCIM integration.

      Firefly is Adobe's freely available generative AI tool that turns simple text prompts into images. Other generative AI features are available within Adobe's apps that require an active Creative Cloud subscription.

      By default, the current (March 2024) AI features within Zoom are disabled, but several are unlocked and can be turned on by individual users. The unlocked features are:

  • At the start of Fall 2024, 海角社区CI hosted an AI Basecamp event aimed at empowering the campus community to collaborate, share knowledge, and showcase applications of AI to enhance our work.

  • The AI Ethics Board at 海角社区CI is charged with guiding the campus community in navigating the ethical landscape of artificial intelligence. The board will not serve as a body for rendering final judgments on ethical questions, but rather as a resource for dialogue, reflection, and informed guidance.

  • Fall 2025 Survey Results

    In Fall 2025, 海角社区 Channel Islands participated in a  designed by researchers at San Diego State University. To date, the survey has drawn more than 100,000 participants across 30+ institutions, including over 92,000 participants in the 海角社区. At 海角社区CI, students, faculty, and professional staff all participated, with strong response rates across all groups.

    Student AI Survey

    During Week 2 of Spring 2024 classes, Teaching and Learning Innovations distributed a brief AI survey to students. We asked questions about whether and how students are using AI tools generally and for their course work, whether their instructors had communicated guidelines around AI usage in their courses, and what advantages or concerns students may have about AI diffusion in higher education.     Instructor AI Survey

    A short questionnaire was distributed to users in the Instructor role in Canvas and later to 海角社区CI鈥檚 Faculty Development community space in Canvas during Spring Semester Final Exams Week (May 13-17, 2024). The purpose of this survey was to gauge instructor dispositions, practices, and support preferences related to generative AI in higher education.   • In Fall 2023, Teaching and Learning Innovations hosted a convening of educators from the region for an AI Summit. Our Keynote speaker shared a framework for AI literacy, and panelists discussed policies, practices, professional development, experimentation, and implementation of AI in their respective contexts.   • Summer 2024

    In 2024, Teaching and Learning Innovations expanded the Summer AI Residency, and we joined by Faculty-in-Residence: Annie White, Breeann Austin, Cindy Sherman, Kristen Linton, LaSonya Davis, Nicole Amato, and Yeawon Yoo; and Staff-in-Residence: Asha Ramachandra, Courtney Gross, Fable Mangold, Kristin Jordan. .

    Summer 2023

    During Summer 2023, Jerilee Petralba and Dan Lenz joined Teaching and Learning Innovations as AI Staff and Faculty in Residence. During their AI Residency, the team experimented with emerging AI tools and related issues stemming from AI diffusion in education and work. Read .
