º£½ÇÉçÇø Channel Islands mission is to promote, foster, develop, and educate future leaders
of character and to prepare cadets to become United States Air Force or Army Officers.
The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) trains students to be officers in a branch of the U.S. military. ROTC courses and activities are not available on the CI campus. However, through agreements with other institutions CI students have the opportunity to participate in ROTC programs at partner universities. CI students participating in ROTC at a partner school receive credit for coursework and may be eligible for scholarships and other opportunities through the partner institutions. Air Force ROTC is available through University of California, Los Angeles, Loyola Marymount University and Army ROTC is available through the University of California Santa Barbara.
What is Army or Air Force ROTC?
ROTC stands for Reserve Officer Training Corps. It is a college-based curriculum program that trains students to become commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army or Air Force, full-time or part-time in the U.S. Army Reserve, Army National Guard, Air Force Reserve, or Air National Guard, while also pursuing a career. Some key features are you attend regular college courses at º£½ÇÉçÇøCI and your ROTC courses at either UC Santa Barbara for Army ROTC, or UCLA or Loyola Marymount University for Air Force ROTC. Other features are strong on leadership, military skills, management, and physical fitness. Upon graduating there is a service commitment of usually 4 years active duty or there is a guard or reserve option.
What is a Crosstown School?
- Location: Students take ROTC academic classes and leadership labs at the host school, which may be located miles away from their home campus.
- Requirements: Crosstown cadets have the same training, physical fitness, and academic requirements as cadets enrolled at the host university.
- Benefits: Participants are eligible for the same ROTC scholarships and stipends.
- Challenges: Requires extra time for commuting and coordination with class schedules at the home institution.
